Chinese smartphone brand OnePlus has had some interesting phones in its portfolio, and lately the company seems to be really pushing the envelope on the battery front. In fact, the company’s OnePlus 15 is considered the Android phone with the best battery life in 2026. However, if you are someone who likes to draw, doodle, or just jot down your thoughts the old-fashioned way, the company’s portfolio is pretty limited when it comes to phones with stylus support. The OnePlus Open is the only phone from the company that can work with a stylus.

Interestingly, the company doesn’t mention the stylus support anywhere in the OnePlus Open marketing, official specifications, or on the product page. As a result, the stylus support has become kind of a hidden feature of the phone. Notably, the phone isn’t even compatible with OnePlus’s own tablet stylus called Stylo, and you need the Oppo Pen if you want a OnePlus Open-compatible stylus. The Oppo Pen is sold as an official accessory to the Oppo Find N3 – the same phone on which the OnePlus Open is based — and the Oppo Find N2. Although OnePlus doesn’t explicitly announce this stylus support, the company did confirm in a statement to Android Central that the Oppo Pen can indeed connect with the OnePlus Open. The same has also been checked by Reddit users, and the Oppo Pen works pretty seamlessly with the OnePlus Open and enables features that you wouldn’t otherwise get.

OnePlus Open and Oppo Pen

The Oppo Pen can work with both the inner display and the outer display of the OnePlus Open, and when you pair it with the phone, it might trigger a firmware update to enable all the related features. You can double-tap the stylus button to take a screenshot, use the stylus as a camera remote, or draw a line from the top-right corner of the screen to launch the Notes app. Plus, you can tap the stylus button to switch between tools, and there is support for palm rejection and 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity.

The overall consensus on Reddit is that the Oppo Pen works without issues with the OnePlus foldable, with at least one person even comparing it to the Apple Pencil. One drawback called out by a user is the battery performance, which they hoped was better. The Oppo Pen comes with a charging dock that you use with a USB-C wall adapter to juice up the stylus.

OnePlus Open is pretty hard to buy in the U.S.

Unfortunately, although the OnePlus Open was officially introduced in the U.S. in October 2023, it’s pretty hard to buy one right now. If you go to the OnePlus online store to purchase the Open, it simply says, “Sorry, this product is not available to purchase in your region temporarily.” So ordering from the OnePlus online store is out of the question. However, it isn’t even available as new at Amazon, Best Buy, or any other reputable store. The only place that seems to be stocking it is Cell2Get, which doesn’t have a good TrustPilot rating or reviews from folks on Reddit. That said, if you don’t mind a pre-owned model, there are units available as part of Amazon Renewed and as refurbished on places like Best Buy, Swappa, and eBay. Remember, you have to be pretty careful when buying pre-owned foldable smartphones, as they are more fragile than traditional phones. More importantly, remember that OnePlus has exited the U.S. market, and while it will continue to service and update the existing devices, it might be trickier to get spare parts and replacements.

The Oppo Pen, on the other hand, was never launched in the U.S. and, as a result, you can’t officially buy it in the country. The only way to get it is through eBay or another store that imports it from China or another country. This also means you will have to pay a premium to get the stylus.
