Lenovo is well known as a reliable laptop brand because its laptops, especially the ThinkPad series, undergo rigorous military-grade durability tests. Lenovo products are built to last, and even their gaming-focused laptops have a reputation for solid build quality. It’s a name that consistently tops the list when ranking major PC brands from worst to best. However, there are definitely other laptop brands that can give Lenovo a run for its money. These are underrated PC brands, not because they aren’t popular, but because many people might not realize that they can compete directly with Lenovo.
When selecting other reliable laptop brands, we wanted to highlight options that can compete with both sides of Lenovo’s laptop business. We chose two brands that can compete with the Lenovo ThinkPad series as everyday productivity machines. We also chose two brands that can compete with the Lenovo Legion series of gaming laptops. All in all, these are four brands worth checking out if you want something other than Lenovo for your next big tech upgrade.
HP
The EliteBook series laptops from HP are designed to be business-class workstations for the on-the-go professional. When TechRadar reviewed the HP EliteBook X G2i, they praised it as both reliable and versatile. It packs up to 64GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage into a super-thin form factor, not to mention Copilot+ capabilities powered by an Intel Core Ultra processor and Intel AI Boost NPU. And in TechRadar’s tests, the X G2i’s battery lasted long enough to “run for your workday and then some.”
When you consider how long Lenovo laptops last, which can be up to 10 years or more in some fringe cases, it stands to reason that any competent competitor will need to have similar longevity. Well, the lifespan of an HP EliteBook typically falls within five to seven years, which is a respectable range in its own right. This is the difference between a “standard” laptop, which often lasts for just three to five years, and a high-end business laptop like the EliteBook that can actually compete with the best Lenovo has to offer.
Apple
Professionals enjoy the MacBook product line from Apple because they can rely on MacBooks to last a long time and perform high-end tasks. They are also known for simple, straightforward software updates, which is a huge boon if you’re managing a whole fleet of machines for your business. The MacBook Pro series is the top-of-the-line option, while a MacBook Air is a more general-use machine for school, office work, or creative pursuits. The 2026 MacBook Air, in particular, stands out for including Apple’s high-performance M5 chip in a relatively affordable package.
We directly compared the MacBook Air vs. the Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon X1 to see which brand made the better ultralight laptop in 2026. The MacBook Air presents the better value, while the ThinkPad Carbon X1 can handle more abuse — both physically and in terms of workload strain. They excel in different areas, and that’s exactly why they compete so fiercely in the productivity space.
Acer
Gaming laptops are among the tech products you should never pay full price for, and that’s why Acer is an appealing competitor to Lenovo when it comes to gaming. The Acer Nitro series of laptops is known for going on sale for generous discounts during seasonal promotions. When PCMag compiled its list of the best cheap gaming laptops for 2026, the publication named the Acer Nitro V 16 AI as the “best budget gaming laptop for competitive gamers.” If you can find it on sale for an even more affordable price, it’ll be well worth your consideration.
Compared to the Lenovo Legion LOQ 15, which is the brand’s latest entry-level gaming laptop, Acer’s budget models are still the more wallet-friendly option. On top of that, Acer has a reputation for frequent software updates and reliable tech support. The Acer Nitro V 16 AI and Lenovo Legion LOQ 15 are both laptops that are more powerful than the Xbox Series X, so ultimately, gamers who are migrating from the console experience can’t go wrong with either one.
Razer
Razer is an underrated PC manufacturer because many gamers might not realize how reliable its products can actually be. Razer competes with Lenovo as one of the laptop brands with the longest hardware support guarantees. If you choose to pay for RazerCare Essential coverage, you’ll get a total of three years of warranty protection for your laptop, which includes battery replacement and no limit on the number of claims you can file. This is appealing because even though Razer laptops are built out of durable aluminum that can last for many years, any gaming laptop from any brand will likely encounter lithium-ion battery issues after two years.
If money is no object, the 2026 Razer Blade 16 is one of the most powerful gaming laptops money can buy. The most premium configuration of this model comes with an RTX 5090 graphics card, a 2TB SSD, and 64GB of RAM. When PC Gamer reviewed the latest Razer Blade 16, they praised its chassis design, screen quality, and impressive portability despite the bevy of powerful components packed under the hood. PC Gamer also consistently measured lower gaming temperatures on the Razer Blade 16 than on a high-end Lenovo Legion equivalent. Power doesn’t always translate to reliability, but this metric favors the Razer laptop’s longevity.
