Tesla has just launched Standard version of Model 3 and Model Y in the United States with a starting price of $36,990 for Standard Rear-Wheel Drive Model 3 and $39,990 for Standard Rear-Wheel Drive Model Y.
The two are basically stripped down version of existing Model 3 and Model Y with some features removed in order to bring down the base price of its most popular vehicles.
First, let’s talk about Standard Model Y. The Model Y Standard RWD is priced at $39,990 and offers up to 321 miles of range, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 6.8 seconds. It features a 69 kWh battery, which is one module less than the Model Y RWD Premium, and is available exclusively in the U.S. The vehicle comes in three exterior paint colors: Stealth Grey (free), Pearl Multi-Coat White ($1k), and Diamond Black ($1.5k). It boasts a unique front and rear fascia design, is 5% more efficient than the Model Y RWD Premium, and includes a new open-concept center console similar to the Cybertruck. The Model Y Standard is equipped with eight exterior cameras, including a front bumper camera with a washer, and offers traffic-aware cruise control, with Full Self-Driving (FSD) available as a paid upgrade for $8,000 outright or $99 per month. It delivers 300 horsepower, vegan leather and textile seats, and 10-way driver and 4-way passenger seat controls, which are now managed via the main touchscreen. The vehicle also features manual second-row folding seats, a manual-adjust steering wheel, heated front seats, and a textile door and dashboard trim.
The Model Y Standard RWD includes a standard multilink suspension, a 7-speaker sound system, and a particulate and odor filter, though it lacks a cabin HEPA filter. It has a glass roof on the exterior with a closed interior roof and a fabric headliner for improved insulation. The vehicle does not have acoustic door glass but uses tempered glass, maintaining a noise level similar to the legacy Model Y. It introduces new 18” wheels with the lowest rolling resistance ever from Tesla, while 19” wheels are available as a $1,500 option, offering 303 miles of range. The Model Y Standard RWD has a 75 cubic foot cargo capacity, a slightly smaller frunk with a heat pump but no drain, and a 15.4” front touchscreen. The rear passenger screen has been removed, and the peak charging speed is 225kW, allowing up to 165 miles in 15 minutes. It features manual second-row air vents, manual-folding mirrors, LED headlights with auto adaptive high beams, and one-piece taillights on the liftgate. The vehicle has a curb weight of 4,061 lbs, a tow hitch available for $1,000, and a ground clearance of 6.4 inches. Tesla expects the Model Y Standard RWD to have the same safety ratings as other Model Y and Model 3 trims, and the Model Y Long Range RWD and AWD have been renamed to Model Y Premium RWD and AWD.
Now, let’s talk about Standard Model 3. The Model 3 Standard RWD is priced at $36,990 and offers an impressive range of up to 321 miles on a single charge. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds and features a 69 kWh battery with one less module than higher trims. This model is exclusively available in the U.S. and comes in three exterior paint colors: Stealth Grey (free), Pearl Multi-Coat White ($1k), and Diamond Black ($1.5k). It is equipped with eight exterior cameras, including a front bumper camera and washer, and offers traffic-aware cruise control, with Full Self-Driving (FSD) available as a paid upgrade for $8,000 outright or $99 per month. The vehicle boasts 286 horsepower, vegan leather and textile seats, and a 10-way driver and 4-way passenger seat control system, all managed via the main touchscreen. Additional features include manual second-row folding seats, a manual-adjust steering wheel, heated front seats, textile door and dashboard trim, standard multilink suspension, a 7-speaker sound system, a particulate and odor filter, and a panoramic glass roof.
The Model 3 Standard RWD also includes acoustic front door glass, tempered glass on rear doors, and 18-inch wheels that provide a 321-mile range, with 19-inch wheels available as a $1,500 option for a 303-mile range. It features HW4 for consistent FSD performance across trims, though it lacks multi-color ambient lights, offering only footwell and door pocket lights. The vehicle comes with a mobile charger, a 15.4-inch front touchscreen, and has removed the rear passenger screen. It supports a peak charging speed of 225kW, allowing up to 165 miles in 15 minutes, and includes manual second-row air vents, manual-folding mirrors, and a standard center console with uncovered cupholders. The Model 3 Standard RWD has a black Tesla logo on the hood and trunk, LED headlights with auto adaptive high beams, and one-piece taillights on the liftgate, though it does not feature matrix LEDs. Tesla anticipates achieving the same safety ratings as other Model 3 trims, with a curb weight of 3,759 lbs and a ground clearance of 5.4 inches. Additionally, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD and AWD have been rebranded as Model 3 Premium RWD and AWD.
