The S Pen has been a highlight feature of Samsung Galaxy phones ever since it was added to the Galaxy S22 Ultra back in 2022. It’s a smart stylus that you can use to draw, take notes, or intuitively control your device in new ways, and there’s a growing list of other useful Samsung S Pen features you might not know about. But if you’re one of the many people using a MagSafe phone case, you’ll likely notice your S Pen isn’t working as intended.
MagSafe technology can mess with your S Pen because it creates a magnetic field that interferes with the S Pen’s electromagnetic resonance. This creates dead zones for the S Pen. You may notice your pen cursor jump across the screen, or it might stop drawing partway through. At times, your phone might even fail to detect the pen entirely. This is a shame because MagSafe cases and rings are such common and convenient accessories. They use Qi2 magnets that allow wireless accessories to snap perfectly into place. This enables wireless chargers, snap-on cardholders, power banks, and more. But because of the S Pen, Samsung does not integrate Qi2 magnets directly into its phones. That said, Samsung phones are MagSafe compatible; you just need to find a MagSafe case or ring that fits your phone model. And you’ll have to accept that it may make your S Pen nearly useless.
Is there a way to use MagSafe and S Pen together?
When comparing major Android phone brands, one key point is that Google supports magnetic Qi2 charging, which Samsung lacks. Samsung has the S Pen advantage, but that’s also what keeps Galaxy phones from using MagSafe technology to the fullest. Or is it? One accessory manufacturer, MagBak, claims to have solved the problem.
MagBak says its Galaxy Ultra cases use multi-layered magnetic shielding that lets you use all the features you expect from a MagSafe-compatible case while still supporting all S Pen functions. Users on Reddit have confirmed that the latest iteration of the MagBak Elite for Galaxy S26 Series works fine with the S Pen. Professional video reviews have also shown no dead zones when using the S Pen with the MagBak S26 Ultra case. By many accounts, it’s one of the notable Samsung Galaxy phone accessories that just work.
